Optical Coherence Tomography and Perimetry

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a top investigation for visualizing the retina layer by layer. OCT allows the ophthalmologist to fully diagnose most eye conditions, as well as to indicate treatment and monitor progress.

Depending on the structure examined, OCULAR TOMOGRAPHY can be of several types:

Due to the wide range of ocular pathologies that can be diagnosed and monitored, OCT has become an essential tool in ophthalmology practice. This is why Topmed Medical Center is equipped with the latest generation Topcon OCT. Additionally, thanks to the angiography module, we can diagnose and monitor various retino-choroidal vascular conditions, replacing invasive procedures.

Visual Field = Perimetry

Visual field testing evaluates central and peripheral vision by mapping a chart based on the patient's response to light stimuli produced by the perimeter. We use computerized perimetry.

The purpose of this investigation is to assess optic nerve function, detect early changes, and monitor evolution under treatment.

Glaucoma, retinal pathologies, or neurological conditions involving the optic nerve require visual field testing for diagnosis and follow-up.

Visual field testing is performed for each eye separately. The investigation lasts 20-30 minutes, after which the device prints a map of the points marked by the patient. This map shows an alternation of white, gray, and black colors depending on nerve function.

Results are interpreted by the ophthalmologist based on other investigations such as OCT, intraocular pressure, or chamber angle analysis.
